All those little yellow balls lined up on our week-long weather forecast are calling out for some al fresco dining. This Thursday, April 25, escape the dreary confines of your kitchen and help out a good cause by Dining Out for Life. Thousands of restaurants across the nation will donate 20 to 30 percent of their Thursday profits to HIV/AIDS service organizations.

In Portland, the proceeds from nearly 30 participating restaurants will benefit The Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon (EMO) HIV Day Center — a drop-in center for low-income people living with HIV and AIDS — and the OHSU Partnership Project, which serves people living with HIV/AIDS, as well as their families and those at high risk of contracting the disease.

“Dining Out for Life is a win-win-win!” spokesperson Ted Allen said in a press release. “The event helps bring new customers into neighborhood restaurants, it gives everyone an opportunity to make a contribution just by having breakfast, lunch or dinner with friends, and all money raised in each city, stays in that city.”

Watch Allen, host of the Food Network show “Chopped,” along with his fellow Food Network star Daisy Martínez and “The L Word” actor Pam Grier, in this PSA promoting Dining Out for Life:
